It’s always great to work with models that bring their personality into shoots, it’s even better when they bring something a little bit extra.

Model portfolio shoots are about the model and her/his personality, not about what they are wearing.

In my normal run of luck when planning early morning shoots, the weather didn’t play ball at first. Hoping to get some nice golden hour images, all we got was overcast sky. Thankfully the clouds burned up a little later, and we managed to get a bit of sun.

Yuan slid into my Instagram DM’s. “Hi Brett I’m obsessed with your feed! You’re an amazing photographer. I really like your natural style, it ‘s very sexy but not too exposed.”

Nevena and I had worked together the year before, which turned out pretty well so we decided to have another go with some images we could send to a magazine.

We shot in the late morning at a small beach in Sydney, the twist in the story here being that this was the first nude beach I had done a photoshoot at.

My favourite photos usually revolve around the environment we are in, where I can step back and show the outfits in interesting locations.

There was this epic moment that the clouds burst in the background, which then rolled over us and we promptly got soaked.

We went with a very high-end feel, photography you would expect to see for a high-end suit brand or watch brand.

Emma, she is a super lively ball of energy and a lot of fun to work with and be around. I’d worked with Emma before on swimwear shoot we did, and after the shoot we spoke about doing some nude photography so we could get some images that we could send to glamour magazines.

Once again, we have a swimwear photoshoot in the middle of winter. “Brett, why do you do this to yourself?”

I wouldn’t consider myself to be a fashion photographer, not by a long shot. I don’t know the first thing about fashion, I just know what might make a cool photo. This shoot was something I had been wanting to try for years, but didn’t have the balls to try at night in the streets of Durban, South Africa.
